DWCS WEEK 8
Another week, another Tuesday, and you better believe we got another night of fights, courtesy of Dana White’s Contender Series. These Tuesday cards have been money, going 10-0 in the last two weeks and I really don’t think we’ve lost on the Tuesday cards ever as we head into the Saturday events. (Somebody reverse jinx that last statement for me).'
Anyhow, here’s some thoughts on the five matches slated from my end.
RENFRO vs PARSONS
I side with Renfo here in the main. He’s 8-1 and has won his last two via KO in the first round. His only loss comes against Mike Malott who caught him in a sub. If you don’t remember, Malott ran through Shimon Smotritsky and won in 39 seconds two weeks ago in a fight we backed him in. Back to Renfro though. He can take this fight, but he has to be very aware of Parsons’ power. If there’s a parlay killer on this card, it could be here if Parsons can land, as Renfro has been dropped in the past. I side with the favorite Renfro here but will not be laying -300.
MACHADO vs RODRIGUEZ
Oddsmakers really love Rodriguez here. I get it, she’s the LFA strawweight champ, undefeated, and has 5 finishes in 6 fights. Machado can hang on the feet and is probably getting a little disrespected with the odds. If she doesn’t shock and come through as a dog, I at least think she can get this one over 2.5 rounds which sits at +100.
BORRALHO vs MURRAY
Barralho coming back for more, looking to snag that contract with try #2 here. He looked solid a month ago, winning via decision against Aaron Jeffery, though didn’t quite do enough to get the paper. You know he’ll come in this go around and look for every opportunity to get a finish, and I believe he can. Big spot for Jesse Murray here who is 8-3 overall, and five of his wins come against guys with losing records. Murray’s been finished in all three of his losses. I’ll be very surprised if this is competitive. -115 ITD is fair.
PETROSYAN vs KOLEV
Petrosyan looking to make the big leagues now in MMA after going 70-21 in kickboxing. Kolev has a padded record, going 10-0, with five of his wins against guys with 0 wins, four of which had 0 fights. Kolev will come forward and try and bully his way, but I expect Petrosyan and his experience with that lengthy combat resume to come through. -120 straight up rather than boxing yourself into a prop is the way I’d go.
BARNES vs FALCAO
Two grapplers kick off the card and the dog is going to be 40 years young here in less than a month, while the -310 favorite comes in 10 years younger making the trek from Brazil. Both guys are riding 3-fight win streaks earning their chance here. Barnes has fought some low level competition along the way, amassing a record of 14-4 and is a kill or be killed type of fighter. Across 18 fights, he’s only got to the final bell twice. Falcao will have the speed advantage and has proven his ability to go deep into fights. I see Falcao closing and getting this one to the mat and dropping some GnP. Three of Barnes’ four losses have come by way of KO and we could see it happen again here against Falcao.
That’s my take, who ya got? Drop a comment.
